TRIUMPH LEGEND
(MECATWIN ASCOT TT)
This is a very special motorcycle. It is a "special" or a "project" as bikers often refer to them. Nothing is quite what it appears .... It was built specially for me by Jack Lilley Ltd in 2001 at a total cost of £12,000. It has been regularly ridden, serviced and is still in excellent condition and all the photos you see were taken in April 2007. MoT to Sept 07, Tax to Feb 08. Mileage 8,600.
Ascot TT is the name given to a stylish kit made by a French company, X-Company Mecatwin, for the Triumph Legend TT 885 cc motorcycle. The kit alone produces a fantastic bike with great attitude - silver paintwork, cafe-race cowl and side panels, progressive front fork springs, Ohlins rear suspension, Pirelli Scorpion SYNC tyres, 3 into 3 exhausts and silencers(?), Speed Triple bars, grips, adjustable levers and Rizan mirrors and bar-ends.
The engine and braking performance were beefed up as well, with Super III pistons, Speed Triple cams and ECU, and Keihin FCR 39 Flat Slide carburettors, all professionally tuned. The sixth gear was added. An oil cooler from a Speed Triple is fitted too. The front brake is a Beringer 6 pot caliper and floating disc. I have fitted a neat National Cycle fly screen and Raask rearsets.
Here's what you will be getting, in detail, if you invest in this piece of modern British motorcycling history:
Brakes Upgrade:
- Stainless steel brake lines
- Upgraded master cylinder, same as Daytona and Speed Triple
- Beringer 6-pot calipers and floating disc
Suspension Upgrade:
- WP progressive springs in front forks
- Ohlins double-adjustable rear suspension unit
Tyres:
- Bike is fitted with nearly new Pirelli Scorpion SYNCs, which are absolutely terrific.
Silencers:
- Mecatwin 3 into 3 stainless steel reverse-cone megaphones, that produce a deep throaty sound. They are perfectly in tune with this engine. The bike accelerates smoothly throughout the rev range. There are some marks along the underside of the lower right silencer where it touches down if ridden spiritedly through right-hand corners! :-)
Bodywork:
- National Cycle flyscreen, which is surprisingly effective at reducing the post-80
mph buffeting from riding naked bikes
- Speed Triple handlebars.
- Custom gel seat. Mecatwin removable seat cowl. (Don't worry about THE ROAD
advertising stickers they will easily come off and will be removed before
sale.)
- Triumph knee and tank pads
- Legal number-plate available for MoTs!
- Gaitor-type fork protectors
Little touches that add to the eye-appeal and convenience of owning this bike:
- Daytona oil cooler, as used in the 1990s Speed Triple Challenge bikes, not
strictly necessary in UK, except maybe if you are into summer track days
- ProGrip bar grips
- Formotion clock on handlebars, matches bike speedo and tacho
- Triumph centre stand fitted for ease of maintenance and
cleaning
- Front mudguard extension to keep the crud off the oil cooler engine and
downpipes
- BMW/Triumph Tiger style power outlet socket for GPS or heated clothing
etc. (behind rear left lower panel, if you can see it)
- Neat Rizoma indicators.
